General Environmental Grant Opportuntities

Genesee Region Trails Coalition Grant: GRTC is a coalition of organizations, municipalities and individuals who are dedicated to improving the network of multi-use trails in this region of Western NY. One of the ways they accomplish this is by directing funding to deserving member groups whose purpose is to develop and maintain trails and greenways in the Genesee Region. Grant opportunities are listed on their website.

EPA Open Grants

The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance gives access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments; domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions; specialized groups; and individuals. Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for more than $400 billion in Federal grants. For more information click here.

Grant News. This newsletter from NYS Assemblyman Sheldon Silver is available in print or online under Announcements. It lists sources of grants and deadlines as well as courses in grant writing.

Urgent Grant Alerts Program is an initiative of Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter which will provide her constituents with the most up to date information on opportunities for federal funding. You can sign up for this Program by emailing your email address, phone number, mailing address and the name of your grants contact person to NY28GrantsAlerts@ mail.house.gov .

Rochester Grantmaker’s Forum publishes the Guide to Grantmakers in the Rochester Area which contains information about the giving programs of over 190 local and national corporations, foundations, trusts, and other funders distributing charitable dollars to nonprofit organizations in the six county Greater Rochester, New York area. Subscriptions vary between $80/year for online version and $90/year for a printed copy. For more information please click here (PDF file).

The Foundation Center is an extensive site for grants. It lists public, corporate and charitable organizations that provide grant monies. The website also has information on courses in grant writing. For more information on the Foundation center’s various national and regional funding directories and data bases please click here.

The Foundation Directory database features multiple options for searching the Foundation Centers comprehensive list of private and corporate foundations as well as grant making public charities. Grant seekers can search by type of foundation and area of interest. Subscription starts from $19.95/month (basic) to $179.95/month (professional).

The Foundation Center’s Funding Directories and Databases is an extensive list of grant guides on National, regional and International sources of funding. Grant Guides are also searchable by area of interest. For more information click here.

The Foundation Center’s Cooperating Collections are free funding information centers in libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit resource centers that provide fundraising information and other funding related technical assistance in their communities. In select libraries often the central reference section of a public library system, Foundation Center is available on CD-ROM. Some libraries have access to the Directory online. Online Guide to Grantmakers in the Rochester Area is an electronic guide to grantmaking organizations in the Greater Rochester Area, published by the Grantmakers Forum of New York. This is a database for nonprofit organizations seeking grants and is searchable by field of interest and type of. Subscriptions vary between $25-90 annually. Foundation Grants Index is a CD-ROM covers the grants of over 1,150 of the largest independent, corporate, and community foundations in the U.S. This lists grants previously given; by subject, then by state and foundation, listing grant amounts awarded and description of the purpose of the grant. The Chronicle of Philantrophy’s Guide to Grants is an electronic database of all corporate and foundation grants listed in The Chronicle since 1995. Chronicle subscribers can search grants from the two most recent issues. Complete access to the Guide to Grants requires a separate subscription. Subscriptions vary from $49 for one week to $295 for one year. for more information click here.

Grantsmart is a database which contains tax returns filed by private foundations and charitable trusts. It provides potential grantees with an idea of what foundations actually funded. For more information please click here.

Guidestar’s Grant Explorer allows research of grant activity of both grantmakers and grantees. Annual subscriptions are available according to number of users.
